A monstrous,
burdensome tax code
04/18/11
Today is when many Americans will file their taxes, sending their hard
earned money to the government.
The tax code is monstrous and burdensome, as evidenced by the many
Obama officials who could not figure it out.
It has to change.
In the 1980s, one of Ronald Reagan’s signature accomplishments was
lowering the confiscatory marginal tax rates to stimulate the economy.
For this generation of Republicans, a similar “Reaganesque” challenge
will be simplifying the tax code.
When the tax code is burdensome, a lobby of people need to be hired to
figure it out, and it creates corruption in government.
When the tax code basically eliminates the very rich and the poor from
the rolls, less people have a stake in how the government is spending
their hard earned money because they don’t pay into the system. The
Obama coalition is made up of rich liberals who don’t pay taxes and the
poor who also don’t pay taxes. Is it any wonder why his coalition does
not care about how recklessly Obama spends tax payer dollars? Because
they don’t pay any taxes and do not have an incentive to care. There
also are corporations, like General Electric, that pay no taxes -- but
MSNBC, previously owned by General Electric, conveniently neglected to
report on that.
During this decade, I hope the current tax code can be obliterated in
favor of a system that is flatter, simpler, and fairer for working
class Americans.
I hope by decade’s end, I can fill out my taxes on a simple postcard.
