House
Republicans, joined by 5
Democrats, passed Cut, Cap, and Balance (CCB) only to see the Senate,
on a
party line vote, table it 51-46 earlier today.
In
other words, the House passed the Ryan
Plan and CCB. The Senate has passed no plans, and rejected Barack
Obama’s
budget 97-0. Republicans have a plan. And not only do they have a plan,
they
have a plan supported by 66% of the American public.
The
House Republicans do not now need
to negotiate. They do not now need a deal. They’ve done what was asked
of them.
They came up with a plan to raise the debt ceiling in exchange for
cuts. But
the Democrats would rather demagogue them than stand for something
themselves.
It’s
time for the House Republicans to
consider a radical thought — hold the line even if it means going
beyond August
2nd. They have a plan. No one else does. And yet all the naysayers say
the
House Republicans are “not serious.”
Going
past August 2nd would show the
Democrats just how serious the GOP is.
