In this edition of the Washington Beat, Benny Johnson of Accuracy in
Media gives us a humorous and historical look at politicians’ bad
behavior.
OBAMA LAUGHING ABOUT $1 TRILLION DOWN THE DRAIN
President Obama, coming off of a terrible month full of depressing
economic news and a jump in unemployment to 9.1 percent, decided it
would be a good idea to joke about the situation after playing his 72nd
round of golf over the weekend. When discussing the failure of the
stimulus package, to a tune of $1 trillion, Obama said while chuckling,
“shovel ready was not as shovel ready as we expected,” and asked
Americans for more patience about the economy.
Obama also got really serious on cutting wasteful spending this week by
launching the “Campaign to Cut Waste,” which will be headed up by Vice
President Joe Biden because “nobody messes with Joe.” First project to
be conducted under the new campaign? The government will no longer
print the Federal Register. And no, that doesn’t fall under entitlement
reform and therefore means nothing.
REPUBLICAN DEBATE
The second official GOP Presidential debate took place this week in New
Hampshire, and this time, unlike the first debate in South Carolina,
big name candidates decided to show up. Rep. Michele Bachmann
officially announced she was jumping into the race while answering a
question during the debate and gave a solid performance throughout the
night. Mitt Romney came out as the winning of the debate, but it should
be noted that none of the other candidates took him to task over
RomneyCare, including Tim Pawlenty who coined the term “Obamneycare”
just hours before the face off. Herman Cain performed relatively well,
but not near the level he did to get his name on the national stage
during the first debate in South Carolina.
EMPLOYERS TO DROP HEALTH COVERAGE
The progressives are getting exactly what they want, a single payer
health care system one regulation at a time. A new McKinsey Study
released this week shows ObamaCare will force 30 percent of employers
to drop their health care coverage in 2014, forcing millions of workers
onto a government insurance program. The penalty to businesses for not
providing health insurance to employees costs far less than it does to
insure employees and therefore, business owners plan to drop coverage
based on what they can afford. Meanwhile, premiums are skyrocketing and
care is getting less and less affordable.
PALIN EMAILS
This week, as we’ve all heard by now, mainstream media journalists
descended upon Juneau, Alaska like a bunch of ravished vulchers in
order to get their hands on 24,000 of Sarah Palin’s emails that she
sent and received during her time as governor. Apparently, liberals
think it’s okay to kill trees as long as they can get some dirt on
Palin out of it. The big revealing scandal found in the emails? None.
Nothing. Zero. If Palin does decide to run for president, it’s fair to
say she is the most heavily vetted candidate in the history of the
United States.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Amy Holmes of America’s Morning News on CNN discussing the media
obsessing over Sarah Palin’s emails:
“The media needs to go to rehab with Anthony Weiner and get over their
obsession with this woman.”
