Brown Should Speak Out and Return
Campaign Donation From Solyndra Board Member
Columbus
- Ohio Republican Party
Chairman Kevin DeWine released the following statement regarding the
$2,500
contribution Sherrod Brown’s reelection campaign received from a
Solyndra board
member:
“Sherrod
Brown frequently talks about
standing on principle and staring down special interests, but it’s
clear today
that a $2,500 campaign contribution from a Solyndra board member is
enough to
buy his silence,” Chairman Kevin DeWine said.
“The
longer Sherrod Brown’s campaign
holds on to the $2,500 they received from a
Solyndra board member, the more questions
arise as to whether his votes
and independence are for sale. As
federal investigations into the Solyndra’s loan guarantee continue to
expand,
Ohio taxpayers deserve to have an independent senator who will fight
for
answers from company executives, not more handouts.”
Background
Information:
Sherrod
Brown has refused to comment
publicly on the donation he received from a
Solyndra Board Member. In fact, Brown has
instead chosen to outsource
comments on the campaign contribution to the Ohio Democratic Party.
That is not
the actions of someone who has “made a career of standing up to special
interests,” those appear to be the actions of someone whose silence has
been
bought.
Sherrod
Brown claims to stand against
special interests
“[Brown]
is a man of principle who has
made a career of standing up to special interests in Washington.” (Sherrod Brown’s bio on
campaign website,
www.sherrodbrown.com, Accessed 9/26/11)
Sherrod
Brown claims to be committed
to showing special interests that Ohio is not for sale. “When you hear
about
‘corporate front groups’ and special interests who pump millions into
Ohio
elections, the name Sherrod Brown comes to mind -- not as the
protagonist, but
as the speaker. Just do a Google search. The Democratic U.S. senator
from Ohio
embraces it as a theme: He wants to show the special interests that Ohio is not for sale.” (Stephen Koff, “Sherrod
Brown to be targeted
for siding with ‘corporate front groups’ (You read that right),”
Cleveland
Plain Dealer, 7/1/11)
“This
bill is about ensuring that the
interests of middle class families are not drowned out by the interests
of
multi-billion dollar corporations and making sure foreign interest
can’t
influence our elections.” (Sherrod
Brown, “Sen. Brown Announces New Bill to Limit Influence of Special
Interests
in Washington,” Press Release, 2/4/10)
Investigations
into Solyndra continue
to breed more questions than answers
Federal
agents have expanded their
examination of the now-bankrupt California solar power company
Solyndra,
searching the homes of the company’s chief executive, a founder, and a
former
executive, examining computer files and documents, the Center for
Public
Integrity’s iWatch News and ABC News have learned. Agents visited the homes of CEO Brian
Harrison and company
founder Chris Gronet. Agents also visited the home of a third executive
involved in the company from the start, according to a source who
agreed to
speak only on condition of anonymity because of the legal sensitivity
of the
situation. (Ronnie Greene, “Solyndra Investigation Expands With Raid of
Executives’ Homes and Filed,” iWatch News, 9/9/11)
The
decision of Solyndra CEO Brian Harrison
and Chief Financial Officer W. G. Stover to repeatedly refuse to answer
questions about Solyndra’s Energy Department loan
guarantee was the latest twist in an
unfolding investigation into the failure of the California solar panel
manufacturer, which just one year earlier had been touted as a model of
President Obama’s green jobs program. (Brian Ross, Solyndra Execs
Stonewall
Congress,” ABC News, 9/23/11)
