with Tony Lee: Wild Card
09.26.11
When
Herman Cain crushed the
competition at the much ballyhooed Presidency 5 Straw Poll this weekend
in
Florida, getting more votes than Mitt Romney and Rick Perry combined,
it
revived Cain’s campaign.
Here
are the reasons why Cain should
not be underestimated: He fits this anti-politician and anti-Obama
election
cycle, he knows how to speak to conservatives, and he has unparalleled
success
in the private sector.
Others
looked at the Straw Poll
results as indicative of the field being wide open.
GOP
donors are clamoring for Chris
Christie, but one has to wonder how he would survive in a Republican
primary.
His bluster that borders on irascibility will not cover up his liberal
views on
climate change, gun control, Islamic terrorism and ObamaCare.
So
again, the wild card seems to be
former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
A
national Marist/McClatchy poll shows
Palin now beating President Obama among independents and trailing him
by only 5
points. Further, Palin has closed the gap in the past month by talking
about
crony capitalism and the lack of accountability in our institutions
that seems
to be resonating with conservatives and independents. In that same
poll, Palin
does better against Obama and among independent voters than Rick Perry,
which
leads one to believe that she can be the candidate who can potentially
square
the William F. Buckley Rule and the Rush Limbaugh Rule for the
Republican
primary. — Tony Lee
