Miss me yet?
A surprise for
returning troops
From Bob Robinson
I got these from a reader. I’d seen it before but didn’t do anything
other than enjoy the photos. This time I checked it out just to make
sure it was legit…
Why? Because quite frankly, the way things are going today I miss the
guy. And yes, the photos are legit.
I didn’t like a few of the things our 43rd President did, but he did it
with good old-fashioned “down-home” style. And he was passionate. He
misspoke some words here and there, but his grin was infectious and I
believe he took his responsibility as the leader of the free world
seriously. This series of photos shows that he took his role as
Commander in Chief just as seriously.
Did he make mistakes? Yes. Did he do some foolish things, like try to
save Social Security through the private sector? Evidently. He was
hammered for it. In a true sense of bipartisanship he gave us NCLB and
the Medicare Prescription Plan.
Fiscal conservatives were cringing then… wonder how they are doing now?
Did he get us into a war that wasn’t necessary? Some think so. Did an
economic collapse tarnish the end of his second term? Absolutely. Was
it a result of his policies? I don’t think so. That mentality had been
building for decades. He pulled us out of an earlier recession
following the attacks of 9-11. I’m still waiting to see this one turn
around.
He was human. As was his predecessor. As is his successor. We are not
perfect.
Is the political divisiveness any worse today than it was then? Maybe.
Maybe not. I guess that’s for the historians to decide.
I was on one side of the rhetoric then. I’m on the other side today.
I remember the “Anybody but Bush” campaign slogan of the Kerry
supporters in 2004. I also remember the billboard signs in 2009 with
Bush’s quirky smile and the caption… Miss me yet?
For my part? Yup. I sure do.

George and
Laura Bush surprise returning troops

Former President George W. Bush surprised soldiers returning home
mainly from Iraq and Afghanistan at Dallas Fort Worth International
Airport on Thursday.
(CNN) - Former President George W. Bush and Laura Bush surprised 145
troops returning home from war Wednesday, greeting them at the
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
The service members, most returning for a two-week break, arrived on a
charter flight expecting to be met by the Dallas-based Welcome Home A
Hero organization.
But waiting with the crowd at the international arrivals section were
the smiling former president and first lady. "We didn't tell them at
all what was going on," said the leader of the welcoming group, Lt.
Col. Patrick McAfee. "It was shock and awe when they walked in the
double doors."
Most of the returning service members are serving in Iraq and
Afghanistan.
A spokesman for Bush, David Sherzer, said they were "honored" to take
part in the welcome. "President Bush often says that he doesn't miss
much about being the President, but he does miss being the Commander in
Chief of an incredible group of men and women", he said…
