Even if you see
it you can’t always believe it
“Verity - the quality
or state of being true or real; Balderdash – nonsense.”
Miriam-Webster Online Dictionary
Verities and Balderdash…
By Bob Robinson
When I grew up I always heard “you have to see it to believe it.”
Today, thanks to modern technology, you can’t even believe what you see
some of the time. Many media outlets have been accused of doctoring
photos to present a desired image rather than a true one.
I teach Photoshop at Edison Community College on occasion… it’s not
that hard. Many of my students – after a 16-week course – can do the
same thing.
It’s a question of ethics. Do you let the reader/viewer know that what
they are seeing has been doctored? You should… but thanks to the
unethical behavior of some, it doesn’t always happen.
Then there are the truly talented artists who will blow your mind with
their manipulation skills. There is no question the “art” is doctored.
They don’t try to present the images as real… they simply want to
boggle your minds while they entertain.
Some of you may have seen these before… they have been floating around
the Internet for a while. This set is one of many that have been sent
to me by readers over the years.
I keep hearing from CNO readers that some of their favorite articles
are ones that I posted as Senior Scribes submissions (like the column
about hanging clothes on the backyard clothes line), or fillers that I
post as Blogs that are humorous or anecdotal.
The beauty of an online News & Information service is that I don’t
have the same restrictions that I had as Advocate editor. If the
readers want it, I do my best to provide it…
So here is my next offering. Check out all nine of them. Some will blow
you away! They are courtesy of a CNO reader and (reportedly)
21-year-old Swedish photographer Erik Johansson.
