The American Workforce Shrinks again
By John Hayward

Another month of Obamanomics, another horrifying job report... the official, and increasingly meaningless, U-3 unemployment rate ticked down to 7.3 percent, because 312,000 people gave up looking for work and dropped out of the job market completely. Anemic job creation for August was driven almost entirely by low-wage, part-time, and temporary work.

Astonishing downward revisions for July and August put the pace of job creation considerably slower than it was just one year ago, and fuel speculation that the official Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers are either absurdly inaccurate, or deliberately fudged to hide the truth of a stagnant economy.

Not only is there no hint of "recovery" on the horizon, it looks more like employers are battening down the hatches and getting ready for a recessionary environment, produced in no small part by ObamaCare. Everything this Administration has done, or announced it wants to do, is bad for job creation - from increased health-care burdens on labor, to a higher minimum wage, a regulatory tsunami, irresponsible government spending, constant threats of tax increases, amnesty for illegal aliens, and business-choking energy policies. The energy situation isn't going to get any better if Obama's fumbling around in Syria sparks a regional war.

None of the things we should be doing are anywhere on the horizon: pro-growth business tax cuts, deregulation, balancing the federal budget, and above all repeal of ObamaCare. A budget showdown looms, and ObamaCare defunding could be on the table. It's lucky for the President that everyone is consumed by foreign affairs, isn't it? They'll hardly even notice another county-sized population vanishing from the map of the U.S. workforce.
