Darke County Treasurer Scott Zumbrink reported that to date the county
has collected $19,825,000 in property taxes, with a delinquency rate of
4 percent.
Darke County Municipal Court Judge, Julie Monnin, told the group that
third, fourth and fifth graders from Montessori recently visited her
courtroom… and got quite a surprise.
“Their eyeballs were huge,” she said. “These were real people – real
cases – they saw coming before the court.”
John Keller reported that State Rep. Jim Buchy is working on a bill to
open state land for gas and oil exploration.
Jobs & Family Services representative Karen Baker reported that job
interviewing is heavy for Continental Carbonics and other companies.
She added that Honeywell has called back formerly laid off employees,
but is not currently interviewing for new positions….
The recent informal monthly Darke County Agricultural Extension meeting
gave local farmers and interested citizens updates on what was
happening in Darke County and Columbus.
Monnin, who also noted she was running for re-election, commented on a
recent LWV presentation about property rights that was relevant to the
legislation Buchy was working on. There will likely be opportunities
for property owners to be paid to allow surveying for oil and gas
reserves.
Keller told the group that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources
knew 45 years ago that Ohio had oil reserves, but they were too deep to
reach. That’s no longer the case.
OSU Extension Educator Justin Petrocino, who leads the group, noted a
variety of activities and services that the OSU Extension Office has
scheduled for local farmers.
Also noted were the following dates:
League of Women Voters Candidates Night is April 25 at the American
Legion.
Darke County Solid Waste Electronics Recycling Day is May 26.
The group meets the first Thursday of every month in the Employee
Cafeteria at Brethren Retirement Community. It starts at 7:30 a.m.,
with the next meeting scheduled for May 5. Anyone interested is invited
to attend.
