Hike to Health
Despite the chill in the air, howling winds and pop-up showers, twelve
adventurous hikers showed up for Darke County Parks’ very first Hike to
Health at Turkeyfoot Preserve. The hike started with a brief
intro to the trail and the group was set loose to hike at their own
pace. Turkeyfoot Preserve’s main trail provides 1.5 miles of
hiking trails, several people hiked the trail twice! “It was a
nice way to get in a 3 mile walk on a Saturday afternoon, and
encouraging to see others out hiking for health,” said Melinda Dickey
about her first visit to Turkeyfoot Preserve.
As the weather changes, the hikes will become even more
enjoyable. The next hike is Thursday, April 7th at 6pm at Worth
Family Preserve. Worth is a perfect park for hiking, it provides
a prairie, woods, creek and a few minor hills. Hopefully we will
see some wildflowers beginning to bloom. The final hikes for
spring will be held Thursday, May 5th at the newest park, Eidson Woods
Preserve at 6pm and Saturday, May 7th at Routzong Preserve at
10am. Meet at the designated parks for each hike. For more
information, visit our website, www.darkecountyparks.org or call the Nature Center
at 937-548-0165. We hope to see you out at your parks!
