There was a new event happening in Greenville this weekend, one that
seems to have claimed a lot of traffic for its debut. The Gathering at
Garst, as the name states, was held at Garst Museum Saturday and
Sunday.
Vendors braved the heat and set up around the perimeter of the Museum,
armed with their wares, fans, and plenty of bottled water. The heat did
not seem to effect the number of people who wanted to see just what
this was about, however. And with a reason, there was much to see and
even more to be amazed at.
Antiques were aplently, as well as many different types of handmade
crafts. Some of these crafts included normal items made abnormal- such
as necklaces made out of Scrabble Tiles or Dominoes. Feathers, painted
with intricate drawings and designs, were for sale, as well as jewelry
and paintings.
Entertaiment was not short, either. There was a walking storyteller who
made his rounds through the many vendors to tell his stories to
listening participants. Live entertainment was also available
throughout the day, with different types of music to satisfy everyone’s
tastes. Carriage rides were running for those who wished to cool down
with the breeze and have a chat, if only for a moment. Face painting
was available for the children.
Across the street, the Council House was also open for people to walk
through, and visitors could experience first hand the carving of a
canoe.
While the event only lasted for two days, it’s safe to say that many
people were intrigued enough to remember the time spent here was truly
memorable.
