December 7, 2011
COLUMBUS
– State Senators Bill Beagle
(R-Tipp City) and Peggy Lehner (R-Kettering) today hosted Chaminade
Julienne
Catholic High School’s Girls’ Golf Team at the Ohio Statehouse. Led by Coach George
Menker, the squad
recently capped a successful season by capturing the State Championship.
Senators
Beagle and Lehner presented
the student-athletes with a Senate Resolution this afternoon.
From
the Chaminade Julienne Eagles web
site:
“The
women’s golf team has only been
around for five years, and after having played some of the toughest
division
one schools in the area, the Eagles are leaving their mark on and off
the
course.
“Coach
George Menker ’55 , is beyond
thrilled to coach such a stellar team. He says the girls work hard, not
only on
their golf game, but also as positive players in a generally stressful
sport.
Other players and coaches notice the good sportsmanship in these
players, and
as Mike Akers, director of conference golf tournaments, said, “This
team has
accomplished a lot in a short amount of time.”
“Colleges
and universities such as the
University of Toledo, Wittenberg, Ohio Dominican, Saint Mary’s, and
Cleveland
State are recruiting from this outstanding group of golfers.”
