A
Key Club International Division 3 meeting held on Dec. 19 in
Greenville, conducted by GHS junior and Div. 3 Lt. Governor Mariah
Reitz, included business and games. In this photo the “Christmas Trees”
were Dan Cox, Greenville, and Megan Booher, Piqua. Other students, left
to right, include Jenillee Braun, Rebecca Braun, Pankti Bhavsar, Tara
Guillozet, all of Greenville, and Michael Murray, Ohio District
Governor, Mt. Vernon. Unfortunately, Zaid Essack was putting final
touches on the Booher “tree” and was hidden from the camera. Business
included discussion of the upcoming KCI Convention in June and the “Box
City” to be held at Greenville in April. (Mark Reedy photos)

KCI Division meetings
combine business with fun
“I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the Objects of Key Club
International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my
nation and God; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these
institutions.”
But nothing says they can’t have fun while doing it, as the following
photos will show.
In 2010 Greenville High School Junior Mariah Reitz signed on as the
school’s first Key Club International (KCI) Division 3 Lt. Governor in
decades, and only the second student in its history to serve in that
capacity.
In addition to being active in her local club, Reitz has multiple
duties as an officer in the largest student-led high school service
organization in the world. District 3 includes Troy, Piqua, Covington,
Miami East, Tri-Village and Greenville. One of her duties is to conduct
monthly divisional meetings. While meetings are often held in Piqua,
the photos are from a recent one in December in Greenville.
Reitz incorporates “warm-up” games similar to those at District events.
That’s the fun part. The business part in December included plans for
Division 3’s “Box City” event to be held in Greenville in April and the
annual KCI Convention to be held in Phoenix, AZ, at the end of June.
With approximately 5,000 clubs in 30 countries – and membership
totaling about 250,000 high school students – Key Club International is
larger than its sponsoring service organization, Kiwanis International.
Among the objectives of Key Club are developing initiative and
leadership, providing experience in living and working together,
serving school and community and preparing for useful citizenship.
Greenville High School Key Club has grown from a small group of
students to more than 50 active members with nearly 1,400 hours of
community service to date in 2010-2011.
Key Club members are regular invited guests to Greenville Kiwanis
Wednesday lunch meetings at the Chestnut Village Center in Brethren
Retirement Community. In March, Reitz and Division 3 members will be
presenting the club’s weekly program. It will likely include games.
