Greenville 2011 Adopt a Box
Although it is winter outside, the Main Street Greenville Adopt-a-Box
Committee is thinking Spring!
Email County News Online for a 2011 Adopt A Box Program application form. This is the
fifth year for this successful program. It wouldn’t be so successful
without local folks like you who believe in our community. The
committee is always in need of more adoptees, as well as volunteers for
planting day and weekly watering.
Deanna York, Darke County Visitors Bureau, says her Girl Scout troop
adopts a box every year, and helps on planting day.
“The girls love it!” she said. “Not only are they learning new skills
like gardening, they are learning that supporting their community is
important. A few years ago, my daughter and I were weeding a box when
she ask me why we were doing it. I told her that we live in this town,
so it is our responsibility to take care of it.”
York is asking anyone interested to gather a group of friends, family
members or co-workers (or a Girl Scout or youth group) and adopt a box!
If you would like to learn more about the program, please call Amber
Schmerge at Main Street Greenville at 548-4998.
