“We have to take our country back!” OFRW President Jean Turner.
Southwest District Republican Women’s Club members and guests filled
the banquet room of Greenville Golf Club Saturday to hear Turner,
president of the Ohio Federation of Republican Women, tell them that
she is making herself “perfectly clear.”
The event was hosted by the Darke County Republican Women’s Club
(DCRWC), which is a member of the Ohio Federation of Republican Women
and part of the Southwest District.
“We will get Republicans back in office,” she said. “The president is
supposed to be a leader. Do we have one? No. Let me make myself
perfectly clear… we will have one after November 2012.”
Attendees had an unexpected guest: Congressman John Boehner’s wife,
Debbie; and the two speakers, Turner and OFRW Southwest District Vice
President, Lyn Bliss, received standing ovations.
Bliss told the group that the SW District has 17 clubs in 14 counties,
and it is growing.
“I was hoping for 50 people today… we have broken an event record with
over 70 attendees from all over the district. It shows we mean
business,” she said.
She told them there was no law requiring people to have email
addresses, so a “buddy system” needs to be established so that all
members can participate in the challenges of the future.
“Team up with at least one person who doesn’t have email… when you get
one, call them or print it out and send it to them.”
She added that Club Associate membership is open to men… noting the
presence of two Darke County RWC members Jessie Green and Mike Bowers.
“It takes recruitment to continue our growth,” Bliss said. “It’s up to
you to recruit that ‘one new member’.”
Bliss received an unexpected honor, a Proclamation from the Ohio
Senate, signed by Senate President Tom Niehaus, President Pro Tempore
Keith Faber (R-12) and Senator Bill Beagle (R-5). The proclamation
acknowledged her recent “Tribute to Women” and “Darke County Republican
Woman of the Year” awards, as well as the National FRW choosing her
OFRW website as the Website of the Week and stated, “Your commitment to
others and your devotion to those in the local community make you a
valuable member of the state as well as the nation.”
Guests were treated to a fashion show, presented by Fashions by
Youniques and featuring DCRWC members and models Cindy Pike England,
Carol Ginn, Nancy Myers, Tammy Green, Pat Faulkner and Mary Kinnison.
Models and many club members wore “fascinators” (small head adornments)
created by The Ivy League.
A fundraising event included auction items presented by auctioneer
Brian Rismiller: an autographed copy of Karl Rove’s Courage &
Consequence, two Ohio State Governor’s Mansion reception tickets, and a
Speaker of the House John Boehner autographed photo and two Boehner
autographed golf hats.
DCRWC President Sally Zeiter was master of ceremonies; Soloist Nancy
Livingston sang the national anthem and a patriot medley during the
event. Greenville Mayor Mike Bowers gave the blessing and the entreaty.
