The thundering of
feet… nope, not Rudolph

No, it wasn't that popular reindeer galloping down the road early
Monday morning, but there was a loud thundering of feet and it did
signal the beginning of the 4th of July activities in Ansonia. The 5K
run had begun.
Voices were awake and cheerful, despite the fact that it was only 9:00
a.m. The 5K run drew in many participants, but only two hours later
attracted many more. The annual 4th of July parade went through the
heart of Ansonia to the pleasure of the citizens gathered to watch.
From there, people headed over to the ballpark to experience food, fun
and games for all ages.
Concession stands were set up for fun treats such as elephant ears or
funnel cakes, and the popular Lemonade Shakeups and chicken dinners
were also available to the community. Soda and water could be
purchased, along with other treats to escape the heat, such as
popsicles and ice cream. Along with the food and drinks, typical 4th of
July items were also being sold, such as glow necklaces.
Entertainment was provided at the ballpark. For the younger children,
games such as a balloon pop or basketball throw were available. A
bouncing castle and putt-putt golf were also forms of amusement for the
children. For the adults (and even some daring kids, too) there was a
chance to catch a greased pig, while a baseball game was being played
on the park. The park also has a horseshoe pit that was in use during
the celebration.
The showstopper of the night was the fireworks that drew many out of
their houses. The amazing spectacle lit up the sky with beautiful
colors that had people in awe and kept them in anticipation from the
first moment. The awaited grand finale finally came, and the thundering
booms echoed as a signal that the Ansonia's 4th of July celebration for
2011 had come to a close.
