The KitchenAid Experience is one of the gems of Greenville, Ohio,
responsible for tour buses bringing hundreds of tourists into the area
every year. This year marked 10 years at it’s current downtown location
on South Broadway in Greenville.
KitchenAid got its start in 1908. From www.kitchenaid.com, it was
Herbert Johnston, a Hobart Manufacturing engineer in Troy, who watched
a baker mix bread dough with an iron spoon and thought: there had to be
a better way.
Seven years later, professional bakers across the country had an easier
and more efficient way of getting the job done with his electric stand
mixer.
A home version, the Model H-5 was introduced in 1919 and dubbed “the
best kitchen aid” by a company executive’s wife. KitchenAid
Manufacturing was born in 1920. Then, in 1994, KitchenAid announced the
construction of a “new world-class 185,000 sq. ft. plant in Greenville,
Ohio.”
The rest is history.
On Wednesday the KitchenAid Experience retail outlet celebrated a
decade of retail and tourism service to the community, along with an
addition of 1,100 sq. ft. of new retail space with a Ribbon Cutting
ceremony.
Among the individuals participating were Greenville Mayor Mike Bowers,
U.S. Rep. John Boehner’s area representative Frank DeBrosse, Darke
County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sharon Deschambeaux, and
Chamber Board Members.
Stop by and visit, shop and enjoy both today’s products and some of the
company’s history.
