Darke County
Well-Represented at Heartland Travel Showcase
DETROIT – The Darke County Visitors Bureau joined hundreds of other
visitor bureaus, attractions and hotels from the Heartland region of
America the weekend of February 18 – 20, in Detroit, Michigan for the
26th annual packaged travel show known as Heartland Travel
Showcase.
Deanna York, Executive Director of the Darke County Visitors Bureau met
with 40 tour operators from across the United States and Canada to
promote the group friendly attractions of Darke County: KitchenAid,
Winery at Versailles, Garst Museum, Inn at Versailles, Bear’s Mill and
a few new stops including local farms.
“At the Darke County Visitors Bureau, we’ve been working for years to
grow the group tour business,” stated York. “We are fortunate to
have many group-friendly attractions and restaurants in our community
that offer hands-on experiences, “behind the scenes” tours, and unique
dining experiences.”
The itinerary shared with people planning to bring buses of visitors to
Darke County was titled “Our Daily Bread: The Farmer. The Miller. The
Baker.” It focused on educating people on where their food comes from,
and how it is processed and baked. The tour includes stops at Eat Food
for Life Farm, Bear’s Mill and Bakehouse Breads. Information on “The
Farmer. The Miller. The Baker” can be found in this month’s edition of
Edible Columbus as well as on-line at farmermillerbaker.wordpress.com.
Overall, Heartland Travel Showcase was a success for Darke County,”
confirmed York. “Those travelers who explore via motorcoaches and those
who plan the trips are eager for new travel experiences from people
they know.”
The Darke County Visitors Bureau under the leadership of York and past
director, Ken Kurz, has attended tradeshows for more than 15 years. “We
continue to build new relationships with the tour operators and
re-establishing old ones.”
