Help Students and
Families with the College Search
Have you ever wondered what impact you have made on one person’s
life? Now you have an opportunity to directly impact the path a
local student embarks upon following his or her high school graduation.
Bridges to College invites volunteers to work one-on-one with local
high school juniors and seniors, as well as their parents, to help them
shape their futures. Volunteers will assist students as they
select a career, research colleges, apply for college admission and
secure financial aid. You will work with up to six students per
year between October and May, meeting with students and keeping records
of your sessions. Volunteers who sign up to help for two years
will enjoy working with some of the same students over both their
junior and senior years. Training and a background check are
provided, and volunteers should have basic computer and Internet
browsing skills.
"The college admissions and financial aid process can be
confusing, especially for students whose parents haven't gone to
college," said Beth Sears, Executive Director of Bridges to College.
"Our mentors take some of the mystery out of the college application
process, and they provide additional support and guidance for the
students."
