Edison Student Wins
National Honor Award
Edison Community College medical lab technician student Veronica Lukey
has been selected to receive the National Student Honor Award from the
American Society for Clinical Pathology.
Lukey, who will graduate this spring with an associate of applied
science degree, graduated from Houston High School and attended the
Upper Valley JVS. She started taking classes at Edison in January of
2009 after losing the factory job she had held for five years.
Her hard work and determination have paid off, and she now plans to
continue her education through the University of Cincinnati’s clinical
laboratory sciences online program.
“The support of the faculty at Edison has been great. If you needed
anything, they’re there for you,” said Lukey. “I would eventually like
to work my way up at a hospital to become a supervisor.”
Lukey was nominated for the award by Edison assistant professor of
medical assisting and lab technology Kathy Gehret.
“Veronica is a very enthusiastic medical laboratory technology student
who loves everything about laboratory science,” said Lukey. “Her
enthusiasm inspires her fellow students as well as her future
colleagues in the field who are currently her instructors at the
clinical sites. I know that my laboratory results will be accurate with
Veronica in the laboratory.”
Following graduation, Lukey said she’ll be applying to Wilson Memorial
Hospital in Sidney while she works on her bachelor’s degree.
The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Pathologists established
the National Student Honor Award to recognize students in the
laboratory profession who demonstrate academic excellence and a
commitment to community service and leadership activities.
