Greenville and Darke County…
A lifestyle to be treasured and supported by Bob Robinson
The holidays. A time for celebration. A time for giving thanks. A time for family and friends. A time for the happy, smiling faces of children… and, of course, a time to be generous. If you have money to spend, especially in today’s economy, local businesses of course are asking you to spend it locally.
Your support of the community is paid back in many ways. Jobs. Local services. And holiday events that over time have put Greenville and Darke County on the map.
One such event was the Holiday Horse Parade in Downtown Greenville Saturday evening. It was the sixth consecutive year and residents, relatives and friends were treated to over 60 entries… horses, donkeys, miniatures… either with riders or pulling decorated wagons.
Dozens of local businesses and organizations participated or donated or both in presenting a spectacle that visitors would have difficulty finding anywhere else.
One of the pleasures of being a spectator at this or any other parade or festival that Darke County has to offer is watching the people – young and old – who gather to enjoy it.
Not a sad face in the bunch… but a lot of smiling, laughing, pointing and fascination, especially from the children experiencing it for the first time.
The Darke County lifestyle is duplicated only in similar small, rural communities, typically throughout the Midwest. What your community has to offer is something to be treasured and supported…
And for which to give thanks as you celebrate Thanksgiving this coming weekend.
You will find it in few other places anywhere. Be safe and enjoy the photos.
