Scribes to wrap up 2011 with Christmas Party at Bistro Off Broadway
By Bob Robinson
Editor
The Darke County Senior Scribes share three common denominators...
writing, a leaning toward youth and community service, and a desire to
enjoy each others company. This year has been one of new endeavors and
a continuation of the old. The Scribes have a regular featured page in
The Early Bird and they have begun taking advantage of a new option:
County News Online.
The Scribes plan to hold a “Thank You” and “Merry Christmas” party to
celebrate another successful year at The Bistro Off Broadway.
In 2007, the Scribes voted to form a Scholarship Fund Committee with
the goal of raising funds to provide scholarships for Darke County
Teens going into communications-related fields. While distinctly
separate entities, the two groups are related with the Scholarship
Committee being the 501c3 fundraising arm of the group.
The Committee establishes the fundraising goals and events, then
requests the Scribes to help support those activities.
In December 2010, the Committee voted to accept the gift of a web
address. The question? What to do with it. By unanimous vote, County
News Online as a fundraising project of the Committee was born. CNO was
launched in January, and traffic has grown from 7,000 visits per month
to nearly 60,000 in October.
Thanks to dozens of CNO sponsors, the Scribes goal of offering more
than $5,000 in 2012 scholarships to Darke County teens in
communications studies will be met.
County News Online would like to thank the Scholarship Committee for
its unified faith in this new undertaking, and the Scribes for their
support of this past year’s fundraising efforts.
Thanks goes to Lyn Bliss, Elaine Bailey, Teen Scribes, Senior Scribes
and the many others who have contributed to the content of County News
Online.
A special thanks goes to George Starks, Kurt Fritsch and Al Bliss who
have stepped up to aid in the production and content of a daily news,
sports and information web site.
Thanks also goes to Ted Abney at Bistro Off Broadway and Kent Zechar at
Zechar Bailey Funeral Home for their immediate, unwavering flagship
support of CNO; the Biddlestones for taking our fundraising efforts to
a new level with their annual In Memorium donation and the dozens of
sponsors who have climbed aboard to support our efforts with their
sponsorships.
Finally, thank you CNO readers! You’re awesome!!! Keep reading and
spreading the word!
