Greenville Eagles Donates to the Community

In its October meeting, members of the Greenville Fraternal Order of Eagles 2177 voted to donate more than $10,000 of its member-generated community service funds to eight local organizations and individuals in need. An additional $10,000 was set aside as approximately half of the funds required for the Eagles Annual Independence Day Celebration at Shade Road in 2012.

Donations were approved for Shriners Childrens Burn Center which serves Darke County children, scholarships for college students who are children or grandchildren of members, the Darke County Visitors Center, the local chapter of Breast Cancer Awareness, the Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund dba County News Online, a local Girl Scouts group, the Girls Traveling Fast Pitch Softball for one of its members and an additional donation to Breast Cancer Awareness on behalf of an Eagles member.

The annual Independence Day Celebration offers entertainment and fireworks to more than 3,000 community residents at Shade Road each year.

According to Steffanie Baker, Worthy President, these funds are generated through the activities of Eagles 2177 members and are held by the State (Grand Aerie) for charitable donations to designated 501c3 organizations. If the money is not used, it is retained by the State for charitable donations that may not necessarily benefit Darke County. Greenville Eagles, needless to say, prefers the money be used to benefit Darke County residents.

In addition to donations, The Eagles is entering its Holiday Season with its annual Thanksgiving Dinner for members, Member Appreciation Christmas Party, Officer and Staff Christmas Party, Kids Christmas Party and annual New Years Eve Party.

Greenville FOE 2177 is a volunteer organization that promotes fellowship and a family atmosphere for all individuals interested in serving their community while having a quiet place to meet, relax and have an enjoyable evening. The Eagles is open to the public for breakfast and lunch, and offers regular weekend entertainment, Friday night meals, and a Steak Fry and Dance the first Saturday of every month. Entertainment for Nov. 5 will be Tempest.

Applications for membership are open to individuals over 21. Pick up an application at the Social Room on Third Street. Membership in the Aerie is open to men and women, while membership in the Auxiliary is open to women only.
