Dozens form a ‘Life
Chain’ protest
Stretching east from the Circle in Downtown Greenville, on the north
side of East Main almost as far as the eye could see, were dozens of
protestors Sunday afternoon. Their message? Abortion kills children.
“We’re from St. Mary’s,” said one protestor, who added there was at
least one other church involved in the protest that day. “We do this
every year.”
Three signs were prevalent… Stop Abortion Now, Jesus Forgives and
Abortion Kills Children.
According to Guttmacher Institute, nearly 50 million legal abortions
were performed between 1973 and 2008, the latest year for which
information is available. A little over one in five (22 percent)
pregnancies end in abortion.
From a peak in 1980 of nearly 30 aborted pregnancies per 1,000 women
aged 15-44, rates have declined to, but now remains steady at, just
under 20 per 1,000 women each year.
