GREENVILLE CITY HALL MURAL
Mural now on display in Rotary
Park
By Lyn Bliss, Senior Scribe October 15, 2011
“After
the mural was put
up at the other end of Broadway, we had
to do something at the North end to keep history for the younger
generations. If
Paul [Ackley] would do
it, I would get the money.” said Mary Catherine Wilson. “Paul donated
his time
and I got the money donated -- $1,800. Everyone was grateful to give.”
The
mural, depicting the original
Greenville City Hall, was finished by Ackley in May. It was recently
installed
in Rotary Park, at the North end of Broadway across from the traffic
circle –
where the original City Hall stood. Greenville City employees Chris
Hunt and
Wes Wirrig installed the mural while Wilson looked on.
When
asked if there were plans for
more murals – as this is the third one done by Ackley that are on
display in
downtown Greenville – Wilson said, “I don’t know if he’ll do any more.”
The
following donated funds to
facilitate the mural’s painting: David Wolverton, Angie, Kathey,
LaJeane Stump,
Pat Faulkner, Mildred Haworth, Al Greiner, Betty Yundt, Blackford,
Ralph Beasecker,
Act One Realty, Norma Knick, Mary Hoffman, Santy Mygatt, Jim Buchy,
Jean Merkl
and Mary C. Wilson.
“It
is nice to have a mural in color.”
commented Wilson as the mural installation was finished. Click here for Senior Scribes
