Wave homecoming a
special one
By George Starks
There are only three homecoming games I really look forward to every
year.
Tri-Village’s, because that’s my alma mater, Franklin Monroe’s because
it’s a class act. It’s actually one that everyone should see. The third
one is Greenville.
Yes, I said Greenville.
Every year a tradition that’s been happening for 33 years is the big
reason. The Wave band and the alumni join forces to do the annual
Script Ohio. Granted, it’s a great time for many as the new homecoming
queen will be crowned. For me, it’s more than that.
The pageantry with the band, Script Ohio at half-time, the flags and
the Navy drill team doing the honors as the queen candidates are being
announced before the game. Some might think it’s the same old thing
every year. It is, but here’s the way I see it.
Homecoming should be a special time for everyone there. It’s a time to
meet up with old friends and renew those friendships. I know when I go
to my homecoming, I have the pleasure of seeing a lot of people I’ve
not seen in a while. I missed it last year for an obvious reason but,
it’s still a special time.
I really wish the Patriot homecoming could be spiced up a little. It
should be more than announcing the candidates and crowning the new king
and queen. I’m not sure how it would be spiced up though. It would take
more creative minds than mine. Maybe some kind of a show... I don’t
know.
In the case of the Jets, the gals are in formals and the guys are
decked out, too.
Needless to say, I really do enjoy the Wave homecoming, even if I
didn’t graduate from there.
