Sunday, September 18th was the 5th Annual Illumination Festival held at
the fairgrounds. This year showcased Coffeehouse bands (local amateur
bands), such as: More Than a Show, Turnaround Band, Chris Cantrell
Trio, Levi Monk, Radiant, A New Creation, and Faith Walkers. For
concertgoers the subsequent bands played: Manfest, Samestate, Krios,
Hyland, BeJah, Chasen, Superchick, Fireflight, Hawk Nelson, and Jeremy
Camp. All day long people of all ages enjoyed all the festival had to
offer.
Seeing people from all walks of life spread across all age brackets was
incredible because normally you do not see that at multi-concert events
like this. The 2011 Illumination Festival: Light in the Darke, was a
success in more ways than one. Concertgoers enjoyed the music,
food and drinks, shopping at vendors, getting autographs on CDs and
other merchandise, hanging out with friends, and enjoying themselves.
Vendors selling jewelry, handbags, CDs, posters, other concert featured
products, t-shirts, and food with drinks. At the coffeehouse, local
bands played their music and showed off their merchandise because they
played for free and for the enjoyment of the community. Included for
people of all ages were Corn Hole, pick-up games, volleyball, Airsoft,
and for the kids an obstacle court & bounce palace.
The Chris Cantrell Trio sung positive lyrics that pointed to Christ.
Levi Monk songs told of the freedom that is found in Jesus. Radiant of
Fountain City Weslynn Church, played next; moreover, their genre is
modern worship band meets rock. A New Creation played next. On Faith
Walkers concluded the coffeehouse lineup with music for all ages as
they played melodious songs that had the whole crowd singing along.
After the Coffeehouse bands finished up, concertgoers formed a line to
the Grand Stadium to see their favorite bands play. Seeing people from
all walks of life spread across all age brackets was incredible because
normally you do not see that at multi-concert events like this.
All in all the fairgrounds was the place to be for this year’s 2011
multi-concert event. I, myself, eagerly anticipate next year’s
Illumination Festival and hope you do too.
Photo descriptions…
I arrived at Illumination Festival in time to sit in on the coffee
house bands, yet I missed the first two bands, More Than A Band and
Turnaround. I listened to The Chris Cantrell Trio. It was fun
picturing the reactions of the audience listening listening to this
band.
For serious sports fans Corn Hole is your game; four friends were
playing corn hole: Jessie Hoffman & Chris Turo vs. Ashley Thompson
& Betty Leighty. For the kids were three bounce houses
featuring an obstacle course and two bounce houses.
On deck was the band Levi Monk shown. Next in the lineup was the band
Radiant and A New Creation. As the band takes the stage to set up,
people filter in and out hanging out as the last band’s signature sound
still resonates within their hearts of those gathered.
Concluding the Coffeehouse bands was Faith Walkers. After the
Coffeehouse bands finished up, concertgoers formed a line to the Grand
Stadium to see their favorite bands play. Seeing people from all walks
of life spread across all age brackets was incredible because normally
you do not see that at multi-concert events like this.
