Greenville and Darke County Ohio honored those fallen during the Sept.
11, 2001, attack on the Twin Towers in New York City, The Pentagon and
the plane destined for Washington, D.C., that had been brought down by
its passengers.
Nearly 3,000 people of all nationalities perished on that day, followed
by thousands of American soldiers as the United States responded with
conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The ceremony took place at 2 p.m. in front of the Darke County
Courthouse on South Broadway. Master of Ceremonies was State Rep. Jim
Buchy. The parade followed, with an Open House at the City of
Greenville Police and Fire Departments.
Among the community groups participating were the Color Guard, DAR, GHS
Band, Greenville NJROTC, Miami Valley Mounted Search & Rescue,
Darke County Boy Scouts and Public Safety Units from around the County
and City.
The Fort GreeneVille Chapter of the Daughters of the American
Revolution served refreshments at the Fire Department following the
parade.
Volunteer photos and a WHIO video documented the event. Among those
providing photos were Deborah Nissonger, Elaine Bailey and Dylan Koop.
