Just under 1000 people from places all over the USA and Canada came to
participate in the annual Tour de Donut. The bicyclists started at
Brumbaugh Fruit Farm and made their way to the finish line. Some
landmark areas included Pitsburg and Bear’s Mill, which served as
pitstops.
Early into the race, an accident between an SUV and a semitruck at the
intersection of Hogpath and 127 temporarily stopped the race.
Determined, the bikers patiently waited until the scene was clear.
The pitstops had replenishing food for the hungry bikers, and of
course, the all important donut. Each donut eaten deducted five minutes
from the person’s final time. Only an hour after arriving at Bear’s
Mill, approxiamately 1250 donuts were gone. An emergency run was made
to obtain more donuts.
In the meantime, there was fruit, yogurt, and power bars to chow down
on.
The volunteers, consisting of Greenville’s Key Club, Arcanum’s high
school band, and event organizers kept the bicyclists occupied. A few
members of the band played their instruments to create music while the
wait for more donuts was in process.
At long last, eight more boxes of donuts arrived and the bikers stuffed
their mouths. Once full, the bikers went on with the race.
