Memorial Hall
100 Years Old on May 3
A full weekend of events highlight Centennial Celebration
Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall was dedicated on May 3, 1912. One hundred
years later, a weekend of celebration is planned for the Darke County
Landmark. It was a gift from Henry and Ella St. Clair to their
community.
On Friday, May 4, Downtown Greenville Inc. will conduct its annual tour
of historical landmarks in Greenville. The tour will culminate in
Memorial Hall’s Civic Room where refreshments will be served. An
Evening of Legacy – Memorial Hall starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Darke County Center for the Arts production will feature local
performers Joseph Helfrich, Spittin’ Image, East Echoes, Encore!,
Melody Line and JR Price’s Orchestra.
Emceeing the event between performances will be “Henry and Ella St.
Clair,” as portrayed by Historical Re-enactors John and Karen Burkett.
The Burketts will talk about Memorial Hall, the life and times of the
St. Clairs and the era in which they lived.
Souvenir programs that emulate the original program on May 3, 1912,
will be available along with buttons of both Henry and Ella.
The Fort GreeneVille Daughters of the American Revolution will help
host the Friday event, then will hold a fundraising Tea at St. Clair
Manor, 224 E. Third St., from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are
$10 each and can be purchased at Readmore Hallmark on South Broadway.
Only 50 tickets are available, so get yours early.
Darke County Center for the Arts will continue the weekend celebration
with the culmination of its Artists Series for the year, The Toledo
Symphony Orchestra. On Sunday will be the final Family Theatre Series
event for the season, the Wizard of Oz. Remaining Centennial
Memorabilia will be available at both events.
Other events are still in the planning stages. The weekend is
cosponsored with DCCA by the Fort GreeneVille DAR, Downtown Greenville
Inc., Greenville School District and the Garst Museum.
Proceeds from fundraising events will go to the Memorial Hall
Preservation Fund.
