DeColores Montessori 7th Grader Troutwine takes two top awards

DeColores Montessori and Versailles Middle School students took honors
in Saturday’s Seventh and Eighth Grade Power of the Pen competition at
Botkins Local School, with DeColores student Jacob Troutwine earning
First Place in the Seventh Grade Individual Contest.
Troutwine also earned Seventh Grade Best of Round Three with his essay
entitled, “Overreacting to Overcast Weather.”
In other Individual Seventh Grade results, Megan Marchal, Versailles,
took Second Place, and Hannah Grilliot, Versailles, took 13th Place.
In the Individual Eighth Grade competition, Quincy Battes, Versailles,
took 10th Place, Maddy Rickett, Versailles, took 11th Place while Masso
Rivelti, DeColores Montessori, took 13th place.
In Seventh Grade Team competitions, First Place went to Fort Loramie
High School, Second Place to Minster Middle School, Third Place to
Saint Marys Middle School and Fourth Place to Piqua Catholic.
In Eighth Grade Team competitions, First Place went to Tippecanoe
Middle School, Tipp City, Second Place to Minster Middle School, Third
Place to Fort Loramie High School and Fourth Place to Sidney Middle
School.
One hundred ninety one students from 18 schools participated in the
annual writing contest, with five schools participating from Darke
County. In addition to DeColores Montessori and Versailles Middle
School, Franklin Monroe, Greenville Junior High and Mississinawa Valley
each sent teams.
Winners in the District contest will be invited to participate in the
Regional contest in March.
