Festivals, the Great
Darke County Fair & CNO Sports
CNO Birthday, 3rd Quarter
By Bob Robinson
There are two major highlights in the Third Quarter of County News
Online’s first year: A summer long series of festivals, including the
Fair, and the return of George Starks to the Darke County sports scene.
Want photos and articles from Annie Oakley Days, the Great Darke County
Fair, State Line Heritage Days, Eagles Independence Day Celebration,
the First Annual Happening at Garst, Prairie Days and more? You’ve come
to the right place. Through the efforts of CNO volunteers, we have
probably the largest collection of photos and unique stories at your
fingertips anywhere.
CNO offerings got a huge boost with the return of my former Advocate
Assistant Editor George Starks. He’d had some health issues to deal
with, but when he got back to Darke County he was ready to rock!
Beginning with Darke County Fair Harness Racing coverage, he and his
“small army” have been covering prep sports throughout the county, from
football to basketball, wrestling and more. Starks also brought
coverage of one of his favorite pastimes, Eldora Speedway, to County
News Online.
In addition to your daily dose of politics, getting “digital ink” were
the efforts of Darke County Economic Development and the State of Ohio
to get jobs, great perspective from Darke County Engineer Jim Surber
and some interesting “back-and-forth” between Bob Rhoades and Don
Wright.
Summer is a terrific time to be in Darke County, Ohio. Relive a few of
those moments with some of the stories below.
