They
took the challenge
By Bob Robinson
Every year, young ladies from throughout the Miami Valley area take on
a unique challenge… to emulate Darke County’s Favorite Daughter, Annie
Oakley, for a year.
In 2011, an even dozen girls took the challenge. Laura Francis was a
junior at Ball State University when she won her title in 2011.
This year, nine girls took the challenge. Francis presented the
trophies and corsages to this year’s Miss Annie Oakley, Elisabeth
Harless, and the runners-up.
Four girls reached the Finals, along with one girl, Cailin Litten, who
won the Costume contest.
Four girls did not receive recognition other than having taken on the
challenge…
County News Online would like to recognize them for their efforts.
Marie Blakely, a senior at Ansonia High School, was sponsored by
Schmitmeyer Organic Dairy Farm. Her hobbies are drama club, choir,
youth group, band, track and cross country.
Kayla Knapke, a freshman at Ft. Recovery High School, was sponsored by
Philothea Country Club. Her hobbies are hunting, yearbook, reading,
baking and cooking, FFA and bow shooting.
Molly Magoto, a senior at Greenville High School, was sponsored by
Greenville FFA.
Majennica Nealeigh, a home-school senior, was sponsored by Greenville
Farm Power of the Past. Her hobbies are playing in bands, drawing and
painting, sewing, reading, shopping and photography.
Congratulations to all these young ladies for taking “the challenge”…
you are all winners!! Annie would have been proud.
