Darke County Animal Shelter
Canine
Capers 4H Club -- June
Meeting 2012
by Hanna
Rice & Madison Doss
The June
2012 meeting for Canine Capers was called to order on June 18th at
7:10pm by
President Hannah Cloyd. The
meeting was
held at the Darke County Animal Shelter on County Home Rd, just outside
of
Greenville.
The pledges
were led by Hannah Berry and Sara Rice. Secretary Courtney Rose took
roll call
by saying your favorite color, and she gave the Secretary’s Report. Twenty-one members were
present. Zachary
Bevins gave the Treasurer’s Report, and Nicole Berry shared a health
tip about
cleaning cuts well to avoid infection.
Old
business included reminders about state fair forms, dog license copies,
dates
for the group photo, posters, and king and queen papers.
In new
business, advisers talked about attending skill-a-thon or writing an
essay to
replace skill-a-thon, Fun Match details, ideas for the float and booth,
and Jr.
Fair Board sign-ups. We also talked about planting a tree in the new
dog park
that is coming soon, or putting a bench in that says Canine Capers.
Before the
meeting, we were given an educational tour of the animal shelter guided
by Tara
Crafton. The shelter has 25 dog kennels, plus a puppy room, and they
have plans
to expand with an outdoor dog park that will be open to the public.
There are
several dogs waiting for adoption.
The
shelter puts pictures of available dogs on display at Walmart, in the
newspaper, and online. Dogs
have been
adopted from several states thanks to online pet sites.
While the
shelter is primarily for dogs, they also have several cats waiting for
adoption. We saw a litter of newborn kittens and learned that cats have
no
adoption fee.
All of the waiting pets need good homes,
and most of them are ready to be adopted.
