Darke
County Solid Waste
Wind
Storm
Debris Collection Site Established
The Darke
County Solid Waste District, Darke County Office of Homeland Security
and EMA
and the Darke County Park District are partnering to offer Darke County
residents a place to take their brush and limbs from the June 29
& 30, 2012
wind storm.
Homeowners
working to clear their yards of trees and woody debris can take it to
The
Shawnee Prairie Preserve. The
Preserve
is located at 4267 St. Rt. 502 in Greenville.
There will be no cost to residents.
The Park District asks that you place your
debris in the area marked by
orange snow fence located on the west side of the property. Watch for signs. Debris can be brought to
the district from
dawn to dusk. This
drop-off is for
homeowners only, not commercial businesses.
Recycling
your tree helps ensure the sustainability of our county by saving
valuable
landfill space. All
of the trees and
limbs brought to the Park District will be chipped and shredded. When chipped into mulch, cut
trees become
valuable organic material used in trail maintenance and landscaping
projects
that help conserve soil moisture and keep plants healthy.
Last week,
the Darke County Association of Fire Chiefs, Inc. and their member
departments,
with the support of Darke County Sheriff Toby Spencer, issued an “Open
Burning
Advisory” for all of Darke County until further notice.
The
unusually dry conditions warrant such an advisory with respect to all
types of
outside open burning and fires. The National Weather Service and the
Ohio
Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry have also issued
fire
watches for Northwestern and Southwestern Ohio.
Please
remember that the land or structure
you own or inhabit or that of your neighbors could be lost if a fire
were to
get out of control and you could possibly be held civilly liable for
your
actions.
