Darke
County Republican Mens Club
Kitchen:
Republican Party has much to work on with youth
By Lyn
Bliss
Stewart
Kitchen who serves as Western Regional Director for Ohio Secretary of
State Jon
Husted was the featured speaker at the regularly scheduled Darke County
Republican Men’s Club recently.
Kitchen is
an Ohio native from Kenton having been raised on his family’s Quarter
Horse and
Livestock Farm.
Kitchen
broke from tradition to practice twirling his grandfather’s drum major
baton in
the barn. He went on to become the drum major for The Ohio State
Marching Band
while studying for his B.S. in Agricultural Education and Leadership.
He said
that the Republican Party has much to work on with the youth of our
country.
“That is
another thing we need to stress with our youth... all they are hearing
in their
schools is how great it is that there is going to be free health care
in the
country. People don’t teach the youth of our country about taxes, how
they are
going to have to pay taxes.” stated Kitchen when asked about the Health
Care
Law.
“They are
not learning that sort of thing in school. They are not learning how to
take
care of their finances. If there is one thing I think we could do that
could
teach people more about being responsible Americans it is to start
teaching our
people about how the real world works. It’s not all about bringing the
world together
and living in one big happy world, there is responsibility out there
and they
need to learn that.
“We need to
find a way to get our education system to start treating those things,”
he
said.
When asked
about the lawsuit that was recently filed against Secretary of State
Husted,
Kitchen said that he was still learning about the details of the case
but he
believed it was a result of there being a difference between federal
and state
regulations as they relate to voting.
The Darke
County Republican Men’s Club meets at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of
every
month, except August, in the Staff Cafeteria of the Brethren Home
Retirement
Community. Breakfast is available for a $6 donation.
The next
regularly scheduled meeting will be September 15 and the speaker will
be Sandra
Brasington who is the Western Ohio Regional Liaison for Governor John
R.
Kasich. For further details, please contact President Hershel Fee at
