Another CNO
Milestone… One Million Page Views & Counting
Eleven Darke County students get college aid in 2012
By Bob Robinson
Sometime on Friday afternoon County News Online reached another
milestone. One reader clicked on a story and logged page view No.
1,000,000 on CNO’s local community news, sports and information service.
We wrapped up the day by reaching the 1,001,749 mark since CNO went
“Live” on Jan. 15, 2011. Since our first month, with 7,179 page views
by 1,847 visitors, CNO has grown to 109,134 page views with 27,533
visitors in May. Our traffic is estimated to reach about 120,000 for
the month of June.
When the Senior Scribes Scholarship Committee authorized County News
Online in December 2010 as a fundraising arm, the goal was to provide
another source of revenue for scholarships for Darke County teens.
Secondary was its service to the community… SSSF recognized that just
like spaghetti dinners and other fundraisers, something had to be
offered in return. Since then CNO has been embraced beyond the
committee’s wildest expectations.
In April 2011, after three months online, CNO contributed $1,500 to the
SSSF’s $5,000 in scholarships to deserving Darke County students. This
year, SSSF and its members will be helping college-bound students with
nearly $11,000 in college expense aid. Over $7,500 of that will come
from CNO sponsors.
As CNO continues to grow in its primary mission, its secondary mission
– service to the community – is also expanding.
Two weeks ago, CNO began offering a Classifieds section. Nearly 2,000
readers have logged in since then, so CNO has decided to set up a more
user-friendly format. The new County News Online Classifieds will be
unveiled Monday.
This week WTGR Tiger Radio 97.5 and County News Online have agreed to
expand the worlds of CNO readers and Tiger Country listeners by
promoting each other’s services.
Want to know what’s going on in Tiger Country? Check out their
schedules for live broadcasts, Community Ties and other offerings.
Tiger Radio listeners will be kept apprised of the free news, sports
and information offerings at County News Online.
When services to the community work together, everyone benefits.
About six months ago, SSSF began to develop a business model through
Edison Community College students so the service can grow in the Darke
County and Miami Valley regions. The model is starting to come
together… and it includes eventually providing jobs to the local youth
it serves, as well as all residents and students interested in careers
in a communications-related field.
County News Online wishes to express its thanks and gratitude to the
thousands of readers who have helped it grow, to the sponsors who have
made CNO support for our young people possible, and especially to the
members and volunteers of the Senior Scribes and the Senior Scribes
Scholarship Fund, without whom this would never have happened.
The recipients of their efforts and financial generosity can be found here.
They include students from Mississinawa Valley, Versailles, Ansonia,
Franklin Monroe, Greenville and home schooled. Scholarship application
invitations are also offered to Tri-Village, Arcanum and Bradford
students. Check back often as the number of students you help with your
support continues to grow.
