The
61st Annual Versailles Poultry Days has wrapped up for 2012, serving
60,000 visitors a record number of kegs of beer and 23,400 chickens.
According to Toni Riegle, Versailles Poultry Days Committee, 226 kegs
of beer were sold and it was a record for the festival.
Poultry Days grounds were packed with visitors after the parade on
Saturday, with lines for the legendary chicken dinners requiring a wait
of an hour or more. One vendor said it would be a couple hours before
the line got much shorter. Scott Ward on Tiger Radio was told in an
interview that anyone wanting chicken should plan on arriving late
afternoon or early evening… the previous night chicken had been sold
out by 7 p.m.
There was a variety of rides and events to keep the kids entertained,
and plenty of good food to keep the hunger pains down while waiting for
the chicken line to get shorter.
The 2012 Poultry Days, themed Operation Poultry in honor of veterans,
provided scheduled entertainment from Nashville Crush,
Higgins-Madewell, Pocket Change, Karma’s Pawn, 2x2 Unplugged and Empty
Tank. In addition to the Grand Parade Saturday, there was an Antique
Car and Tractor Parade on Sunday. Other planned entertainment included
a Kiddie Tractor Pull, 5K Run, Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, and Arts
& Flower and Photography Shows.

Condon of Versailles. Other contestants were Mandy Keiser of North
