Community Pride...
Greenville Wavaires invade The Big Apple
By Bob Robinson

“Virtually everyone was transfixed by what was happening in front of us!”

Twenty-five students from Greenville High School got the experience of a lifetime earlier this month... as did one proud grandmother.

The Greenville Wavaires added another feather to their cap by performing a 90-minute concert at the Jazz Lincoln Center in New York City. Watching the performance (and bursting with pride) was Kathy Beam... she accompanied her Wavaire granddaughter Brooke Netzley. Brooke will be a sophomore at GHS this fall.

Beam wasn’t the only person impressed with the concert. Billy Pod Blogs wrote the following...

“THE GREENVILLE WAVAIRES, the multi-award winning High School group from Greenville, Ohio...

“OMG!! This 25-member chorus gave an outstanding 90 minute performance of singing and dancing at a level that makes you quickly forget they are all just teenagers. OMG!!

“Folks, it was non-stop action and the choreography was incredible. The energy level of this mega-talented ensemble spilled over into the full-house audience. Virtually everyone was transfixed by what was happening in front of us.

“This was my first event at The Allen Room, which overlooks Central Park, and the view and scene is awesome and that added to the magic of this show.

“My friends Michael Pederson and Dennis Dohman were also in attendance and they, too, enjoyed the show about as much as I did.

“Bottomline? I am soooooo glad I booked this event.”

I’ve seen the Wavaires in action... and though I wasn’t privileged to see this event, I have no other description of their talent and showmanship than... “simply incredible!”

While our community often nitpicks about Greenville City Schools, the tremendous accomplishments of its students and staff sometimes go unnoticed. Most of us know about the Wavaires... some of us have actually seen them in action... but few of us seem to know what the rest of the world knows!

In promoting the event, this is what the Jazz Lincoln Center wrote:

Performing June 9, 2012 - The Greenville High School Wavaires, from Greenville, Ohio under the direction of Michele Smith, pride themselves with a diversity of musical repertoire.
The Greenville High School Music Department was awarded the 2001 Grammy Signature School and selected as one of the top 100 schools in the nation for music by the Grammy Foundation. They have performed in such noted venues as, Carnegie Hall, the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center, St. Paul’s Chapel, The Riverside Church, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, South Street Seaport, and the Statue of Liberty, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the CBS Early Show.

These students have much to be proud of... as does the Greenville Community in the talent our schools offer to us and the rest of the world. One of its signature achievements is the Greenville High School Wavaires!
