demolition funds
March 23, 2012
Community
Action Partnership of the Greater Dayton Area has received from the
Ohio
Department of Development NSP 2 money for demolition of blighted
structures
within Census Tracts 5101, 5555.01, 5555.02 and 5601 in Darke County. The grant is for
Demolition/clearance of
vacant residential structures that are blighted foreclosed and /or
abandoned
single family properties that would require more funds to rehabilitate
than to
demolish. This is
in order to stabilize
and improve targeted neighborhoods.
Community Action has demolished blighted
houses in Hollansburg,
Greenville and Union City. At
the
present time, we are preparing to do two houses in Greenville.
Anticipated
benefits of the project are that the dilapidated residential structures
will be
removed and such work removes sites at risk for arson and other crime. Infestation is a risk to
surrounding homes.
This stabilizes a neighborhood.
