March 9,  2012

Dr. Doug Gordon DMD, MS of Gordon Orthodontics, located in Greenville and Troy, has given generously to support Family Theater Series programming for children.  “Dr. Gordon has committed his life and his practice to improving the quality of life and confidence level of his patients, and feels that providing opportunities for youngsters to learn and grow through the arts is a natural extension of his commitment to enhancing the quality of life in our community,” says Strait.  She continues, “DCCA is proud to have Dr. Gordon serve on its Board of Directors and truly appreciates his commitment to support the arts. ”

Dr. Gordon’s sponsorship helps enable DCCA to present high quality artistic performances for youngsters and their families at a low ticket-price of $5.  According to Strait, the goal of DCCA’s Family Theatre Series is to inspire the imaginations of the young and young at heart, encouraging the expression of creativity.  The series attracts a wide-ranging audience that includes many preschool children enjoying their first theater experience, as well as senior citizens who enjoy the shows’ strong depiction of traditional values.

Performance times are scheduled to fit conveniently into most schedules at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoons.  Most of the productions are original musicals based on popular tales adapted from current and classic children’s literature, although non-theatrical creativity -inspiring performances are presented as well.

DCCA is in the midst of its 33rd season of presenting high quality professional performing artists in Darke County.  Family Theater Series’ 2011/2012 season opened with Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia’s charming presentation of Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny.   Still to come, The House At Pooh Corner will delight young and old alike when Theatre IV brings our dear friends from the Hundred Acre Woods to St. Clair Memorial Hall on Sunday, March 25.  Wizard of Oz will complete the season on Sunday, May 6.  American Theatre’s lavish production of this family favorite will be a spectacular ending to a great season of events.

All Family Theatre Series performances take place at the beautiful, historic Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville.   Tickets are $5 and may be purchased one month in advance of the shows at Readmore’s Hallmark in Greenville, and Worch Memorial Public Library in Versailles.  Tickets are available now by contacting DCCA at 937-547-0908 or dcca@centerforarts.net, and may be purchased at the door on the day of the show.
