Zechar
Bailey thanked for its “Little Piece of Home Program” April 19,
2012
Recently
Staff Sergeant Richard C. Pierri, with the 82nd Airborne Division of
the U.S.
Army based in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina returned home from Afghanistan
and
presented Zechar Bailey Funeral Homes with a very unique gift and thank
you for
their “Little Piece of Home Program”.
“I
appreciate the opportunity to thank Kent Zechar, the staff of Zechar
Bailey
Funeral Homes and the citizens of our community for your unwavering
support for
the men and women of the 1-505 Parachute Infantry Regment in both
Operation
Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom” stated Pierri.
Pierri had
a unique shadow box made specifically to contain a US Flag which he
flew
January 26, 2012 over CJSOTF Village Stability Platform, responsible
for the
Village of Mangal, Afghanistan and its neighbors in the Baghlan Valley; a Battalion Coin that was
awarded to him for
Excellence in Combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009, a picture
of the
members of his 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment; and a set of Airborne
wings
representative of his 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne
Division.
Zechar
Bailey’s “Little Piece of Home Program” started in 2007. “The funeral home
furnishes shipping
containers, processes the administrative paper work and pays for all
shipping
to our troops overseas. However,
the
success of the program is based on the overwhelming support and
participation
of the generous citizens of the Darke County area” states Zechar.
As of April
19, 2012 there have been 2836 packages mailed to our men and women of
the Armed
Forces.
The shadow
box is on display in the main lobby of the Greenville Funeral Home and
all are
invited to stop by to view.
Pierri is the son of Kent and Nancy Zechar
and Richard and Kathy Pierri of Greenville.
