Partnering with Community Agencies
Hospitality
Program Partners Service and Learning
The Hospitality and Facility Care program at Greenville Senior High
School has been partnering with several Darke County organizations to
provide community services while providing students with real-world
learning experiences.
The class of 17 juniors and seniors recently provided banquet setup
services for the annual Youth for Christ of the Miami Valley
fundraising banquet. The students entered the empty All Season’s Place
and 90 minutes later had the venue set up for over 400 guests complete
with linen, flatware and centerpieces.
This event gives the students much needed practice in large-scale event
planning, preparation and banquet set up skills. The students were then
invited as guests of Catering by Michael to attend the banquet in
appreciation for their service.
The Hospitality Program also partners with the Darke County Nurses
Council to provide catered meals for their professional development
meetings. A new partnership has also been formed this school year to
provide environmental services to the Grace Resurrection Community
Center. Students assist in cleaning the facility, preparing clothing
for the clothing bank, and in the food pantry.
The 2-year career technical program provides students with skills that
will prepare them for entry level positions within the hospitality
industry or to further their education in a hospitality related
program. The students train in community hospitality related businesses
that include the Brethren Retirement Community, the St. Claire Manor,
and Wayne Healthcare.
The students provide many hospitality services within the school
district for professional and committee meetings. Any business or
organization that would be interested in learning more about the
services that the Hospitality program could provide should contact the
program instructor, Toni Shellabarger at (937)548-4188 or contact the
Career Technical Office at Greenville Senior High School.
