McCormick inducts new officers
Roy Haines congratulated for years of service as Ki-Yak editor
Kiwanis Division 3 Lt. Gov. Bill McCormick recently presented awards
for service and congratulations for election to new officers for
Kiwanis of Greenville 2012-2013.
A special commendation was presented to Roy Haines for more than 20
years of service as Ki-Yak editor, the monthly newsletter of the club.
To the surprise and disappointment of many, he had announced early in
October that he would retire at the end of the month. He received a
standing ovation from club members for his service.
Susi Halley graciously agreed to step into the position beginning Nov.
1. Her continuing years as editor of the Greenville Library monthly
newsletter make her uniquely qualified for the new volunteer role.
New officers Cindy Riffle, president, Christina Chalmers, vice
president, Jim Schaar, treasurer, and Tom Lawson, secretary, were also
inducted. Schaar and Lawson have served in their positions for several
years.
Retiring president Mike Snider automatically assumes the position of
past president. Retiring board member Bob Robinson was thanked for his
years of service on the board. Robinson is the Kiwanis Advisor for
Greenville High School Key Club. Immediate past president Joe Payne
completes his year of service as an office of the club.
Other officers serving on the Kiwanis Board of Directors are: Holly
Hill, Al Greiner, Mary Lane, Dale Musser, Ann Allison and Lynne Gump.
Greenville of Kiwanis is a community service organization with its
primary focus local youth. Membership is open to any member of the
community wishing to service. The club meets each Wednesday at noon at
the Chestnut Village Community Center.
A complete history of Kiwanis of Greenville, “90 Years of Service,” has
been written and published by Roy Haines. It can be accessed by
