Public
Library patrons are now enjoying the new automatic computer sign-up
system. Rather than
have a staff member
log on for them, they can now walk up to any available public computer
and sign
themselves in. It’s
convenient and
easy. All they need
is a current library
card and a PIN number.
Each
patron is
allotted 120 minutes a day on the computer.
This time can be taken all at once or
spread out throughout the
day. They can just
sign themselves in
and out and come back later if they’d like - the computer keeps track
of their
account. This feature allows people to check their emails or Facebook
more than
once.
Anyone
over the
age of four can obtain a library card free of charge by signing up at
the
Circulation Desk. Parents
or guardians
must accompany kids under 18. Proof of a current address is necessary. For a lost card $1.00 is
charged.
In
some cases a
fine may be charged to a patron’s account which prevents them from
using a
library card. Circulation
Supervisor
Jenny Sullivan is happy to work with anyone in this situation. Just see her for
arrangements. Sometimes
a patron chooses to work off the
fine by doing some volunteer work in the Library.
The
Board of
Trustees decided to purchase the system from EnvisionWare after careful
consideration of price and quality. The purchase was made possible from
generous gifts from several donors:
the
Friends of the Library, the Harry D. Stephens Trust, Linda Kinninger,
and John
& Beth Vehre. Many
thanks for their
support.
