GHS Key Club 2012
Members plan
for the new year
With a car wash, Annie Oakley Days Parade and Kiwanis Fair Gate 5 under
their belts, Greenville High School Key Club members, in a recent
meeting, got information on the upcoming Key Club International Fall
Rally and their next volunteer event: Prairie Days at Darke County
Parks.
Laura Schwieterman, Volunteer Coordinator, made a presentation to the
group about Darke County Parks’ upcoming Prairie Days Saturday and
Sunday, Sept. 29-30. GHS Key Club, as well as other high school clubs,
have been volunteering for the event for years.
This year, as in years past, Schwieterman is working to get a lot of
“holes” filled by volunteers. Prairie Days is a well-planned
comprehensive event that includes multiple vendors and activities for
visitors of all ages.
The uniqueness of the event is volunteers dressed in period clothing,
and entertainers and activities that relate to Ohio’s Prairie Days of
the 18th and 19th centuries…
“Come one, come all to the most exciting service circus to ever hit the
State of Ohio! We have games to test your skills, a service project
that thrills and speakers that give you chills! So step right up and
get your tickets to Cirque de Service!”
The theme for Key Club International Ohio District’s 2012 Fall Rally is
“Cirque De Service.” As in years past, it will be held at COSI in
Columbus, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
GHS Key Club has been involved in the rally since a small group of Key
Club members went there for the first time in years in 2009.
Mariah Reitz was elected the first Greenville High School Division 3
Lt. Gov. in years the following year. She went on to become the Ohio
District Secretary. GHS Key Club member Natasha Swank was elected to
the Div. 3 post in 2011. This year’s Div. 3 Lt. Gov. is Darpan Kaur,
who is shown discussing this year’s rally with club members.
Key Club International is sponsored by Kiwanis International. It is the
largest student-led organization in the world. GHS Key Club is
sponsored by Greenville Kiwanis.
The club volunteers for a variety of events throughout the year,
including Trick or Treat for FISH, Kiwanis Bell Ringing and Pancake
Breakfast. They volunteer as their time permits for a variety of
community-oriented events.
Officers for school year 2012-13 are Sarah Herzog, president, Rebecca
Braun, vice president, Cierra Whitesell and Tara Guillozet,
co-secretaries and Krutant Mehta, bulletin editor.
