Ride to Eat, Eat to Ride
Bicyclists
invade Darke County for Tour de Donut
Photos by Bob Robinson
An anticipated 1,250 bicyclists invaded Darke County from more than 15
states and Canada on Saturday.
Called the Tour de Donut, in this unique race riders are awarded 5
minutes off their time for every donut they can eat (limit three handed
out at one time) at the rest stop and after the ride.
The goal? A “negative” time in the race.
Riders have donuts marked on their number for each donut they eat and
the time is subtracted from their actual time in the race.
Hundreds of riders arrived at Bears Mill over a period of about 45
minutes. Bicyclists could be seen chomping on their donuts –
sometimes all three at once – and cooling off with energy drinks and
water before their trek back to the start… Arcanum High School.
As they have for several years in the past, Greenville High School Key
Club members helped with the event, handing out donuts, hand wipes and
drinks. This year’s volunteers were: Rebecca Braun, Anna Braun, Abby
Kindley, Catherine Gibson, Alexis Minnich and Erica Waller.
Placement Awards given for the event were: Men (under/over 50), Women
(under/over 50) and Tandems Fastest Adjusted Time - Fastest Elapsed
Time - Most Doughnuts Eaten! Attendance prizes will be posted during
the race, so you can check as soon as you complete the ride. The Grand
Prizes and recognition prizes were scheduled to be announced/awarded
starting at 12:00 pm.
New this year… every finisher received a custom finisher medal.
