Junior Fair
By Lyn Bliss
Each
year the excitement and anticipation is almost palpable the
day before the Great Darke County Fair is scheduled to begin. Then, the
gates
open to the multitude of attendees who are there to enjoy the efforts
put forth
by all those who make the fair possible.
Not
least of those is the Junior Fair Board and all of the Junior
Fair participants who have worked so very hard during the previous year
to
bring their animals to the fair, show them and then to be graded
themselves on
how well they actually do that showing. This “showmanship” results in
one
Junior Fair member being recognized as “Showman of Showmen” after a
day-long
competition which involves each participant displaying their
showmanship skills
with each of the various animals featured as part of the Junior Fair.
The
animals are categorized into various departments: beef, dairy,
dogs, goats, horses, poultry, rabbits, sheep and swine. Each department
then
features various Classes in which the Junior Fair members may compete.
County
News Online wishes to extend a huge thank you to all of the
Junior Fair Board Members and all of the Junior Fair members who
participated
in this year’s Great Darke County Fair.
Congratulations are also due to all for
the wonderful job done!
