Rooster Crowing, Calling & an interesting stat
Bob Robinson Comments
Photos by Elaine Bailey

There’s an interesting event that takes place every year in the Poultry Barn at the Great Darke County Fair… never been there myself but Elaine Bailey thought she’d check it out.

The Rooster Crowing Contest. Or is it the Rooster Calling Contest. Is there a difference? I searched the Internet but no answers were to be found there. I did, however, find out that roosters don’t need the “light” of dawn to announce its coming. Seems researchers in Japan checked that out and have determined it’s part of their internal clocks.

Interesting.

Regardless, Elaine has shared photos for us for three events: Rooster Crowing, under the age of 9; Rooster calling, ages 9-15 and Rooster Calling, adult.

Shown above are Evan and Blake Addis, winners of the “Under 9” event. Below are the winners of the “9-15” event: Dillon, Adam, David, Lucas and Hope.

Check out all of the contestants, including a young married couple, at our Community Events Photo Gallery.
