Volunteering
for education – trends
are up
Education
is important – and Darke
County communities are showing that support everywhere. Even in
volunteering
the trends show that people are more likely to give of their time in
education
or youth services than in most other organizations; this is an increase
of
63%. Also a
high-light for Retired and
Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is that Baby Boomers and Older
Americans are
both over 40% more likely to volunteer than the same age group in past
years.
Let
RSVP help you find the
volunteer opportunities in Darke County for adults aged 55 and better
that help
our youth and others in the communities.
Gateway
Youth – looking individuals
that are dedicated and have strong academic skills to tutor young
students. Through
this program, you will
help at-risk youth have a stronger education base and a brighter future
as they
improve their academic skills and learn life skills.
Project
More – watch for volunteer
opportunities in a reading / mentoring program within the schools in
the near
future.
Warm
Up America – do you have
needlework, knitting, crocheting or quilting skills?
Are you interested in volunteering but
do not
drive or have other limitations on getting out?
Become a Warm Up America volunteer and
help to make afghans, lap robes,
or other items that can be distributed to agencies like the VA
Hospital, Darke
Co. Home, WIC, and Community Action Partnership for people in need.
If
you are interested in becoming a
volunteer in one of these positions or want help to find that
just-right
volunteering job, call the RSVP Darke County recruiter Cheryl Stafford
at
937-548-8002 or email at rsvpdk@councilonruralservices.org. You can choose how to
